Dolce: A Portrait of a Young Boy

The Wash In

This is the first layer of paint. It is painted with a limited palette of Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue and Raw Sienna oil paints. Odorless mineral spirits is used to thin the paint. This wash in was painted with more detail then my usual wash in procedure. During the next painting layer the wash in details will be lost. The drawing was going well so I used this as an opportunity to become familiar with the structure of the subjects face.
